The Digital landscape and online behaviours are constantly evolving. Many companies find it difficult to keep their finger on the pulse of all the changes, which roll out on a daily basis. In our 2018 recap blog, we compiled our top marketing trends for 2019 - as a partner list, here are my predictions for this year’s top digital trends – so even if you can’t keep up with everything, you’ll still be ahead of the game!
1. Social e-commerce
With the rise in popularity of ecommerce and shoppable posts, particularly on Instagram and Pinterest, 2019 has seen Facebook begin to roll out shoppable posts for Facebook Live. Facebook says that 95% of adults between the ages 18-34 follow at least one brand on social media, while 55% make a purchase after discovering a product/service via social. So, it makes sense to sell on a platform where people are already browsing, and avoid drop-off rates during the purchase journey. If you haven’t already, it’s definitely worth looking into creating a social ecommerce strategy.
UX (user experience) has been a continuing topic of interest - but 2019 will see it come into sharp focus. UX is a part of everything, from website design, to developing an omnichannel marketing strategy – even looking at people online who are already talking about your brand, and engaging with them to improve your UX. Good UX gives companies the potential to make money go further, for both agencies and clients.
In 2019 it’s about knowing your audience for online visuals. Look at the platforms they’re using, and their demographic. You want to make it as easy as possible for them to see you - after all, you’ve got a product or service which is designed for them! With 52.2% of all website traffic coming from mobile devices, it’s essential to optimise your images and videos for social and web.
2018’s big marketing trend was data, with over 63% of marketers reporting increased spend on data-driven marketing. For 2019, my prediction is empathy. It’s great to have data, but knowing how to connect it to a real person, and understand why they might want to buy your product or service, is really what matters - not just in the short term, but for building long-lasting connections to your brand.
There’s a lot of talk about voice search going around, especially in other 2019 trend predictions, and it’s definitely something to keep an eye on. But looking at online behaviours shows that as well as voice, it’s important to focus on the increasingly popular trend that is visual search. In January 2018, Google image search already accounted for 23% of all searches, compared with voice, which was less than 1% . With android devices able to search directly from their camera app for products, and online retailers rolling out visual search within their apps, make sure you optimise your images for SEO purposes.
